On the Future of Zeeshan League

Mr. Greedy is the greatest of all time of the Zeeshan sports league and Muzammil is a great rival. However, any successful model has a threat and to the ZSL, I believe the threat is not from competing leagues, but the fact that its core members are innocent children and teenagers, that once they become adults, in a few years, the series loses its charm. Muzammil and Mr. Greedy, judging by their looks are perhaps in their early teenage years and they would be adults in no time.

One could argue that their bench strength is excellent, with boys lined up – with Cute Boy Ali, Sallu, Daniel, Sabir, Assad Ronaldo and the latest addition, Mr. Greedy’s younger brother, Little Greedy. However, would a future Sallu vs Daniel rivalry create as much interest as a Mr. Greedy vs Muzammil rivalry? Or for that matter, is Ali still going to go by the tag “Cute Boy” once he is a teenager? Or how about Little Greedy? Is he always going to shadow his older brother who happens to be the greatest of all time?

The players of the legedary league

Another threat that needs to be kept in mind is that these games are based out of Pakistan, where most political scientists agree that the country has a hybrid model of governance – with a civilian administration along with a military above the civilian hierarchy in practice. This is even witnessed by the fact that the US president Donald Trump dines tête-à-tête with Field Marshal Asim Munir, as it is understood that he wields more power in the country than Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. With the volatile situation in West Asia right now, and Pakistan having the strongest military among its allies, what if Field Marshal Munir introduces conscription? Mr. Greedy and Muzammil may have to leave the league on a 2-year national service, and can the league survive their absence?

To hedge against such external threats, there are steps that could be taken, and for starters, girls could be inducted into the league. The luck-based games could be played together whereas the skill-based games can have segregation. In the unlikely event of conscription being introduced, Pakistan is not going to impose it on women – so this risk is nonexistent on the women’s league. To make things more interesting, one could even have mixed games in team sports, as is seen in tennis or 4x relays in swimming or athletics. This would increase the diversity of the league and also has the potential of bringing in new viewers. While I could not careless who is the next Miss Pakistan, but I am dying to know who would take the title of Miss Greedy in the league.

Another potential is to have Zeeshan League clash with other family leagues, modelled along the UEFA Champions League for football, wherein, Omar, Mr. Greedy and Muzammil can compete against players the best players of other leagues. The next possibility is also to have new recruits in the league – Little Greedy is a welcome addition but Zeeshan can also consider having new recruits from beyond the family, not merely the siblings of existing players.

Whatever happens, Zeeshan has built something beautiful and in my opinion, this is one of the very few short-form content videos in TikTok / Instagram that is not toxic. As a result, I feel they should consider the future of the league and like any sport, retirements are inevitable. The issue should not be the inevitable retirement of Mr. Greedy someday, but building a system that ensures succession and continuity of the league.

Good luck Zeeshan!

Have a nice day,
Anirudh
